U Beduram is one of the 65 ethnic Gurkha's living in Falam Township, Chin State. Although Gurkha is not on the Myanmar census list, he was allowed to self-identify using the "914" code.

A total of 46 international and national observers carried out a nationwide monitoring mission of this year's landmark Myanmar census, which took place from 30th March to 10th April 2014 across all of the country's 15 states and regions. The team observed 2,193 census related activities.

Five junior midwives wearing red longyis and white hats, locally known as the “red angels” are being put through their paces through intensive training supported by the UNFPA at a maternity clinic in the outskirts of the Myanmar capital, Yangon. Their task is to prepare their team of mobile midwives to return to field – carrying out life-saving work in the numerous Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Sittwe and Myebon townships, located in central Western Myanmar.

The estimated 600,000 Pa-O living in Shan State constitute the state’s second largest ethnic group, after the Shan. In Hopong, capital of the Pa-O Self-Administered Zone, the zone’s Chairman, U Khum San Lwin, said that accurate data generated from the census would be critical in steering Myanmar’s political, economic and social development.

KYEEMYINDINE TOWNSHIP, Yangon — Hundreds of health workers throughout Myanmar are being instructed in HIV counselling and testing, under an innovative decentralized training programme organized by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, in collaboration with the National AIDS Programme. This is adding to the range of clinical skills that midwives can perform, thereby speeding up access to services. Training sessions are being conducted in May and June in 34 townships across seven states and regions. Some 1,500 midwives and health assistants from rural health centres are being trained.

NAY PYI TAW__ 34 Myanmar national and international media were given a first glimpse of the post enumeration data analyzing process, organized jointly by UNFPA and the Department of Population (DoP), at the Census Office on 21 May 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, the nation’s capital, to ensure full transparency throughout the various data processing stages. The Census Office is located within the Department of Population.
