This year World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is being celebrated with a global campaign aimed at reaching one billion people and setting new records of positive public engagement through a social media and online campaign that asks people to do something good, somewhere for someone else.

The World Humanitarian Day website www.whd-iwashere.org has been officially launched along with video messages from Beyoncé and the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon. For your information, please find attached the WHD 2012 one-pager on Global Events & Campaign Material.

In Myanmar, WHD has been commemorated for the past four years. In preparation for this year’s event, the UN Communication Group is preparing for a successful event for WHD on 19 August (Sunday) 10:00 to 12 noon at Inya Lake Hotel.

UNFPA, Myanmar has booked for a booth for IEC and photo display joining other UN and NGO booths. A working group is formed with five staff to work on the display at WHD event.

Tentative agenda is as following:

10:00 – 10:20 Welcome, introduction and deliverance of WHD message from UNSG and UN ERC
10:20 – 10:50 An address by the Representative from Govt. ( Ministry of Social Welfare)
One minute silence in honour of humanitarian colleagues who lost their lives in the course of duty
10:50-11:10 Photo slide show “People Helping People” humanitarian response in Myanmar, with song by youth choir.
