UNFPA launches social-media Selfie campaign: Lend your voice to help transform the Future

Yangon, Myanmar__ Ahead of the official handover of the 2014 State of the World Population 2014 report to the Government, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is launching a social media Selfie campaign dubbed, “Lend your voice to help transform the Future” which encourages Myanmar youth to be a voice for transforming the future of young people across the country.

The social media campaign takes its inspiration from the UNFPA flagship publication, the State of the World Population 2014 report, which was launched globally yesterday under the theme The Power of 1.8 Billion: Adolescents, Youth and the Transformation of the Future.

How to participate in the Selfie campaign

Participants are encouraged to post a self-portrait (Selfie) photo of themselves in their community and post it on Facebook or Twitter alongside posting a comment in Myanmar or English or answering at least one of the following 3 questions: “What are your hopes? What are your fears? What aspirations do you have for your future and that of your community?”

  1. Take a photo of yourself on a phone/camera
  2. Connect to the internet and log onto your Facebook or Twitter account
  3. For posting on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/showyourselfieMMR 
    For posting on Twitter: https://twitter.com/unfpammr/
  4. Post your selfie photo with a message or answering at least one of the following questions: 
    What are your hopes? 
    What are your fears? 
    What aspirations do you have for your future and that of your community? 

(Note: messages can be done either in English or Myanmar)
Include at the bottom or at the end of your message: #showyourselfiemmr

The campaign will end on 1 December 2014 and entries will be displayed at a follow-up State of the World Population (SWOP) press event in December 2014 which focuses on this year’s theme of: “The Power of 1.8 Billion: Adolescents, Youth and the Transformation of the Future.”
