calendar_today 25 February 2014

UNFPA representatives witnessed the first of a series of five official billboards being put up at busy junctions and key locations in Yangon, the former capital of the South-East Asian country on 11 February 2014. Nine billboards are supposed to go on display in Yangon. Approximately 391 billboards will be erected across Myanmar covering all the 7 States and 7 Regions in an effort to further increase visibility for the census.

The enumeration exercise will take place on 30th March to 10 April.

“Nation-wide we have to inform the people of Myanmar of the importance of the census, and using billboards are a good way of raising awareness. The billboards will help in getting the census message out, so everyone will know about the period of the exercise, the it is safe to participate, that the information gathered will be confidential,” said U Kyaw Zaw Han, Chief Marketing Officer for ACE Media Group who was helping to oversee and ensure that the billboards are placed in the correct locations.

The production of the census billboards and posters started in early February. The official census launch will take place on 1 March which will kick off a nation-wide awareness and communications campaign.
