6th Data User-Producer Consultation on Census Thematic Reports

calendar_today 03 February 2016

Nay Pyi Taw - The 6th user-producer consultation took place in in Nay Pyi Taw on 3rdFebruary 2016, looking at the themes and data that will shape the thematic reports on Population Projections, Population Dynamics, Education, the Elderly and Housing Conditions and Amenities. The thematic reports will dig deeper into the analysis of the main census results to reveal important aspects for Myanmar’s social development.

Michiko Ito of the International Organization for Migration said that the user-producer workshops provide her with an opportunity to put forward her inputs for the thematic reports. She said: "Population projections indicate that there will be a shift from rural to urban areas as industry expands. The impact that this has on rural societies is far reaching in terms of fertility and generation gaps appearing." She added: "If satellite cities are created, government and society as a whole have to consider what industries can be created where, and what the infrastructural needs will be."

Inputs from over 80 data users from UN agencies, government, political parties, development partners, civil society, researchers and academia, who have a wealth of experience and expertise in their respective fields, are critical to ensure that the thematic reports are relevant to those organizations who are going to use them to inform on-going reforms and policies, economic development, and the allocation of resources in the positioning of social infrastructures such as schools, health facilities and roads. The thematic reports will be published in 2016 and user-producer consultations will continue throughout the year.
