New UNFPA Representative for Myanmar meets Union Minister for International Cooperation

UNFPA Representative for Myanmar Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan presents his credentials to the Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin

YANGON, Myanmar - On 3 January 2019, the new UNFPA Representative for Myanmar Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan presented his credentials to the Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin.

During the meeting, they talked about how UNFPA and the Government can strengthen cooperation in UNFPA’s mandate areas, including sexual and reproductive health and rights; gender equality and women’s empowerment; and prevention of violence against women. They also discussed population matters and UNFPA’s support towards census activities. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan took up his position as UNFPA Representative for Myanmar on 4 December 2018.
