Amid the devastation wrought by flooding and landslides triggered by Cyclone Komen and further exacerbated by monsoon rains in many parts of Myanmar, the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, is supporting the government and civil society partners in responding to the ongoing crisis.

As of the 11th August 2015 it has affected an estimated 589,900 people across 12 of 14 Myanmar’s States and Regions since mid-july 2015.

On the 8th August 2015 the UNFPA team in partnership with the Ministry of Health travelled to Sarmalauk Village, Nyaung Tone Township in the Ayeyawady Region to help support local youth - Youth Information Corner (YIC) as they were carrying out relief efforts. The Sarmalauk YIC consists of 40 enthusiastic youth volunteers aged between the ages of (15 to 24 plus) and have been helping flood affected communities since mid July.
