National Census Advisory Committee

The National Census Advisory Committee (NAC) was formed in 2013 as part of the administrative structure of the 2014 Myanmar Census. The committee contributes through its guidance and advice to the Department of Population in implementing a census that better responds to the needs of society.

It brings together a diverse socio-cultural group from different government ministries, NGOs, CBOs, women organizations, ethnic and religious groups, disability groups, youth groups, academia, private sector, UN, donors, and the media. NAC gathers the views and priorities of different population groups. Its unique role is in being local, and in including varied voices of the people of Myanmar.

In 2014, the original membership of 40 was expanded to 51 in order to include more participants from ethnic, religious and disability groups, as well as members of the media and the private sector.
