"Accelerating the Promise”, 12-14 November 2019 Myanmar - Country Commitment

  

Honorable Chairman, Your Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen,  

I am honored to make the Country Commitment of Myanmar to this august gathering. 

Recognizing that every maternal death causes emotional and psychosocial loss, pain and suffering to the family, and also because women form the fabric and cohesiveness of every community, Myanmar is committed to eliminate preventable maternal deaths. Women should not die giving life.  

 

Ladies and Gentlemen,  

The Government of the Union of Myanmar commits to the overall goals of  

(a ) Zero preventable maternal death, morbidity and disability by 2030 and   

(b) Zero unmet need for FP by 2030    

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and on my personal behalf, I commit to the following specific actions- 

  1. To ensure implementation of evidence based Maternal and Reproductive Health interventions, as defined in the Basic Essential Package of Health Services, and as defined in the National Health Plan-2017-2021, focusing on comprehensive antenatal care, intrapartum care, postnatal care, post abortion care, adolescent and youth friendly sexual and reproductive health services and family planning services based on Myanmar Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Policy 
  2. To provide women-centered sexual and reproductive health care, focused on patient safety and improvement of quality of care through continuum of care approach to attain Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
  3. To train midwives according to national midwifery standards, deployed and supported with regulated professional development to provide skilled care. 
  4. To implement community interventions for pregnancy notification, pregnancy planning for institutional delivery and supportive care through community empowerment.
  5. To strengthened referral systems in managing life-threatening obstetric emergencies with strong coordination and collaboration among health care providers, health facilities and empowering women and the community.
  6. To increase designated budget allocation for Maternal and Reproductive Health, specifically investing in reproductive health commodity security, with functional electronic Logistic Management Information System (eLMIS) nationwide. 
  7. To increase interpretation and utilization of disaggregated data from District Health Information System (DHIS 2) to inform decision making for better planning, implementation and evaluation to enhance EPMM strategy for Myanmar.
  8. To strengthen responses to every maternal death reported through the maternal death surveillance and response (MDSR) System to avert further preventable maternal deaths.
  9. Myanmar being prone to natural and manmade disasters also commits to ensure responsive maternal and reproductive health services provided in humanitarian setting through multi-sectoral collaboration as part of the rapid response health cluster. 

 

Ladies and gentlemen,  

In conclusion, I would like to re-iterate Myanmar's sincere commitment to bring quality sexual and reproductive health and rights based care to our people.  Women will be treated with skilled care, with dignity and respect and every child birth and delivery is planned, supported and safe to bring happy and healthy experiences for the families.
