Dr. Margarita Guerrero
Director of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN-SIAP), Japan
Dr. Guerrero is Director of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN-SIAP). In her current position she focuses on addressing capacity development needs of national statistical systems of developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to her ITAB membership, Dr. Guerrero served as international observer for the Myanmar census. Prior to her current position, she has provided technical assistance and advisory services to variety of UN agencies including population censuses and household surveys as the Regional Adviser on Statistics at UN Economic & Social Commission for Asia & the Pacific (ESCAP) Thailand, capacity building as Senior Technical Advisor to UNDP Vietnam, as Lecturer/Statistician of the UN-SIAP and as Project Coordinator for UN Statistics Division in New York.
Dr. Guerrero has given invaluable contribution to the development of statistics in the Philippines through her work as Director of the Industry and Trade Statistics Department of the National Statistics Office, Philippines as well as her membership in the various Technical Committees including Survey Design, Season Adjustment of Philippine Time Series, and Interagency Committee on Trade Statistics. She is also a member of the Statistics Advisory Committee of the Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO).
Dr. Guerrero, a native of the Philippines, holds a PhD in Statistics from the Iowa State University, USA.
