Mr. Duncan Young
Head of the Australian Census of Population and Housing, Australia
Mr. Young is responsible for delivering the Australian Census of Population and Housing in 2016, and is passionate about his role in encouraging the use of Census data to enable more informed decision making in Australia. Mr. Young has undertaken a range of technology and statistical leadership roles at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand over the last fourteen years. He was recognised as the 2011 Australian Government Young ICT Professional of the Year and received the 2013 Young Public Sector Leader Award.
In addition to his role with Australia, Mr. Young has enjoyed making an international contribution. He worked through the UN Population Fund to provide technical consultancy to Vietnam for their Census in 2009, and with UN Statistics Division in the review of the Principles and Recommendations for the 2020 round of Censuses. He has also been an active member of the UK’s Beyond Census 2011 International Review Panel since 2013.
Mr. Young, a native of Australia, holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration through the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
