From the 21st to 29th January 2016, UNFPA supported training for national officers from the Department of Population, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Construction and Nay Pyi Taw Municipal Council. The training aimed to build their capacity to analyse and interpret data that will be included in the education, elderly and housing thematic reports.

A total of 12 thematic reports will be published in 2016, which will provide a more in-depth analysis of data that has already been released as part of the main census results. The national officers will work alongside international consultants to prepare the thematic reports on education, the elderly and housing. Ms. Sander Myint, Assistant Director of Population, who attended the training said it had helped her to understand concepts and definitions to assist in the development of the reports and will be relevant to her work in national planning and the post-2015 development agenda. The training was facilitated by the lead authors of the thematic reports, with support from UNESCO and the Department of Population.

In addition to the three thematic reports on the elderly, housing and education, thematic reports on fertility and marriage, mortality, maternal mortality, migration and urbanization, population projections and population dynamics, the labour force and gender dimensions will be published over the course of 2016.
